Rainy Day Fun

This week I added Smithy to my resume. That's right. I now have the knowledge and ability to craft made to fit armor to suit all young noble knights who come my way. That is as long as a 16" by 20" piece of poster board fits around their head and they don't need to defend themselves against anything harder than a pillow. Luckily for me, I know two such knights and this week they were in desperate need of my assistance.

Knights are very cool. They compete in jousting competitions, fight bad guys, and slay dragons. But to do this, knights need armor and my two little knights were somewhat lacking in that department. That is why on our very rainy Tuesday morning Noah insisted that we forge helmets for him and Naomi.

He got the idea from this really neat activity book given to him by his Aunt Brooke.

Inside are lots of different activities, including a page on how to make your own helmet.

So, after reading the instructions, I collected poster board, scissors, crayons, and tape and the three of us went to work.  The kids were in charge of design and styling. I was in charge of crafting- definitely on the job training. But in the end, they turned out pretty good!

The helmets even passed inspection- both pillow safety and knight approval. Just in time too. Later that afternoon a pack of angry fire breathing dragons attacked the castle and my brave little knights had to defend their dear mother and baby brother from getting carried off and eaten! Thankfully, the dragons were killed and we all slept very well knowing we were safe from another attack...at least until morning :)
